Norfolk-based Osborn Brickwork seen in the photo were signed up this month by aircrete manufacturer H+H as approved contractors for the Rå Build modern method of sustainable construction, which was reported by Calfordseaden from independent research this year to reduce build costs by 8%.
Calfordseaden’s research compared three different design options with Rå Build for a 20-unit development of typical three-bedroom semi-detached houses. The Rå Build method proved to cost £59/ m2 less than either timber frame or SIPS to whilst achieving the same 0.25W/m2K U-value in the external walls.
This can offset the extra costs of building to meet sustainability levels required by the Code for Sustainable Homes.
“All the benefits can be translated into direct cost savings, which immediately help to make the business more competitive in tenders and over the long-term for overall efficiency and margins,” said Chris Osborn, who is seen left on site with H+H Rå Build manager Graham Sargeant (right).
